Living Landscapes
over the next months SPACEPILOTS and architect/artist Carol Mancke [Machina Loci] are going to investigate the idea of space as a living landscape, a repository of accumulated action instead of pure physical mass.
Working closely with an east London neighborhood, they are aiming to transform and enrich the community’s urban experiences. How are landscapes lived on, in and through? And how are these landscapes and environments revealed, imagined, animated and experienced by, in and through use and interaction?
The project aims to activate latent or liminal attributes of place, while testing and developing performative methods to enhance and/or enrich a site, provoking users and occupants to experience and appreciate place differently – if only for a moment.
Within the specific context and settings of the confined public area of a modernist council block in east London we will:
1. test ways of collecting, representing and mapping past and present patterns of use.
2. work with children and adults to invent place-specific activities.
3. work with local residents and users to create site-specific interventions incorporating sound, objects and/or performance.
